Renew Temporary Residence Card

The duration of temporary residence cards is as follows:

• A maximum of 05 years for NG3, LV1, LV2, ĐT, and DH temporary residence card types.
• A maximum of 03 years for NN1, NN2, TT temporary residence card types. A maximum of 02 years for LD and PV1 temporary residence card types.

A Temporary Residence Card, in English known as a "Temporary Resident Card," is a document issued by the Immigration Department to foreigners or overseas Vietnamese residing in Vietnam for an extended period. Depending on the purpose of staying in Vietnam, temporary residence cards can be issued for durations of 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, or even up to 5 years.

Those who are granted a temporary residence card are exempt from obtaining a visa for Vietnam during the corresponding validity period of the card. Temporary residence cards offer several advantages over visas, as visas have limitations on the number of entries and the duration of stay. When a visa expires and cannot be renewed, it becomes mandatory to exit the country, which can significantly disrupt one's activities.

The content of a temporary residence card includes:

- Temporary residence card number

- Temporary residence card type

- Full name of the temporary resident

- Date of birth

- Gender

- Passport number

- Duration of the temporary residence card

According to the regulations in the 2014 Law on Immigration, temporary residence cards are issued to foreigners for specific purposes and are classified as follows:

Type LV1: Issued to those working with central agencies, organizations, and units under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam; National Assembly, Government, Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Supreme People's Court, Supreme People's Procuracy, State Audit, ministries, government agencies, and agencies under the government; provincial party committees, municipal party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees of provinces, and centrally-run cities.

Type LV2: Issued to those working with political, social organizations, foreign chambers of commerce and industry in Vietnam.

Type ĐT: Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and foreign lawyers practicing in Vietnam.

Type NN1: Issued to individuals who are the head of offices of international organizations, non-governmental organizations in Vietnam.

Type NN2: Issued to individuals who are the head of representative offices, branches of foreign traders, representative offices of foreign economic, cultural, professional organizations in Vietnam.

Type DH: Issued to individuals who come for internships or studies.

Type PV1: Issued to reporters, resident journalists in Vietnam.

Type LĐ: Issued to foreign workers.

Type TT: Issued to foreigners who are spouses, children under 18 years old of foreigners holding LV1, LV2, ĐT, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LĐ, or Vietnamese citizens.

The duration of temporary residence cards is as follows:

•  A maximum of 05 years for NG3, LV1, LV2, ĐT, and DH temporary residence card types.
•  A maximum of 03 years for NN1, NN2, TT temporary residence card types.
•  A maximum of 02 years for LD and PV1 temporary residence card types.

+ Documents required for renewing a temporary residence card include:

- Application for a temporary residence card (NA6 form for organizations, NA7 form for individuals).
- Declaration form for applying for a temporary residence card for foreigners (NA8 form).
- Supporting documents verifying eligibility for a temporary residence card, such as a work permit, confirmation as the head of a representative office, or other relevant documents.
- 02 passport-sized photos (one attached to the declaration form, one separate).
- Passport.
- One complete set of documents.

Within 05 working days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays) from the date of receiving a complete application.

(*Note: Temporary residence cards are not granted to individuals whose passports have less than 12 months of validity.)
