Consular Legalization
Consular Legalization is a common issue for Vietnamese documents when taken abroad, as they are often not recognized for use. However, the primary reason for this problem is not well understood by many. This article by YLC Limited Liability Company aims to clarify the concerns of our valued clients.
According to regulations, Vietnamese documents must be consularly certified to be recognized and usable in foreign countries. According to Decree No. 111/2011/NĐ-CP, consular certification is the process by which the competent authority in Vietnam certifies the seal, signature, and title on Vietnamese documents to ensure their legality when used abroad.

So, which documents require consular certification for use abroad? In essence, all documents, including those issued by Vietnamese government agencies, Vietnamese companies, or individuals, need this service to be legally recognized in foreign countries. Common examples include marriage, labor, residency, study, investment documents, and certificates of origin.
The authority responsible for performing Consular Legalization for Vietnamese documents is called the Consular Department in Hanoi and the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ho Chi Minh City.
