There is one general principle: regardless of who you are, if you intend to exit to another country from Vietnam, you must apply for an exit visa. Exiting Vietnam is defined as Vietnamese citizens leaving the territory of Vietnam through Vietnamese border checkpoints.

And another particularly important note is that in order to apply for an exit visa, your passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining.

In addition, you must ensure that you meet the following conditions in order to be allowed to exit the country:

– Có thị thực hoặc giấy tờ xác nhận, chứng minh được nước đến cho nhập cảnh, trừ trường hợp được miễn thị thực;

Not falling under the categories of individuals prohibited from exiting the country or those subject to temporary exit restrictions as stipulated by the law.

Individuals lacking legal capacity for civil acts, those with cognitive impairments, or those unable to control their actions as defined by the Civil Code, as well as individuals under 14 years of age, unless specific conditions stated in Article 1 apply, must be accompanied by a legal representative.

Depending on each embassy or consulate and the specific purpose, the required documents may vary for visa applications to different countries. However, there are some common documents that need to be prepared:

As of now, Vietnamese citizens holding a green passport are exempt from obtaining a visa (visa-free) in 77 countries for tourism purposes. However, each country may have different regulations regarding the duration of visa-free stays, which can range from 14 days to 180 days. The most common duration falls between 14 days and 30 days.
